Hourglass Estate sits at the narrowest point of the ‘hourglass’ shape of Napa Valley, thus the vineyards here benefit from the cooling influence of the breezes that come through the gap in the mountains.Planted with the same C-clone of Cabernet Sauvignon to be found at the legendary Martha’s Vineyard, the 2021 Hourglass Estate immediately feels ‘different’ to many other Napa wines on the nose. It is so interesting with a lovely, elegant, savoury hint that makes you sit up and take note. The aromas have a wonderfully fresh feel with a twist of spice. It feels very sophisticated indeed.The palate is a wonderful expression of the cool 2021 vintage. All is measured and in check with lovely, bright blackberry and dark cherry fruit with a juicy cranberry and sour cherry edge.
